For many independent insurance agents and brokers, the ideal way to give back to the insurance industry is to serve IIABCal. Each year, IIABCal members dedicate their time and expertise to shape the future of California’s Independent Insurance Agency system  through board or committee service. These member agents and brokers provide critical intellectual capital and strategic resources to power the success of IIABCal.

IIABCal Board of Directors

IIABCal Board Members are responsible for advancing the Association’s mission through strategic oversight, organizational planning, and fiduciary responsibility. Board members are expected to:

  • Attend four annual Board meetings (two in-person and two virtual), as well as Board-level committee meetings and the annual Installation Celebration.  Board members are also encouraged to attend the Independent Women Summit (which immediately follows the first in-person meeting of the year.)
  • Participate in strategic planning and provide quarterly oversight.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of resources (financial, volunteer, and staff).
  • Provide financial oversight and uphold the legal and ethical integrity of IIABCal.
  • Serve as ambassadors of the Association and promote its mission and goals.
  • Adhere to IIABCal Bylaws and Policies & Procedures.
  • Stay informed on industry trends impacting the Association’s future.
IIPSC Board of Directors

The IIPSC (Independent Insurance Producer Service Corporation) Board oversees the business affairs of IIPSC, the for-profit arm of IIABCal that provides insurance programs and education to IIABCal members. Board members review insurance programs and other partnerships and make recommendations that meet member needs. The IIPSC Board meets virtually four times per year.

Committees

Committee meetings are held virtually throughout the year. The Blue Ribbon Conference (BRC) Committee assists with the selection of speakers and provides input on logistics for the annual Blue Ribbon Conference. The Finance Committee reviews financial reports, analyzes and oversees investments and adherences to investment guidelines, and prepares an annual budget for Board review. The Leadership Development Committee helps build and support independent insurance agents through their life cycle via unique programming.

Nominations for Board and Committee positions open no later than June 1 each year and remain open for at least three weeks. Voting Agency Members and non-voting Associate Members may nominate themselves or other eligible individuals to any available position for which the individual is eligible.

IIABCal and IIPSC Board of Directors

The Nominating Committee, appointed annually by the IIABCal President, reviews all eligible nominations and prepares slates for both the IIABCal Board of Directors and the IIPSC Board of Directors. IIABCal members vote on the IIABCal Board of Directors nominees and the IIABCal Board votes on the IIPSC Board of Directors slate.  When determining slates, the Committee considers whether the candidates would be advocates of IIABCal/IIPSC, have core competencies that would add strength to the Board, represent diversity, including size of firm, geographic region, independent agent and broker segments, age, and race/ethnicity.

No later than September 15, a ballot with the proposed IIABCal slate is sent to voting members, and results are announced before the fall Installation Celebration. Most directors serve three-year terms; any directors elected from non-voting (Associate) members serve one-year terms.

The IIABCal Board votes on the IIPSC Board slate at the fall IIABCal Board meeting. IIPSC Board members serve one-year terms.

Committees

Committee members are appointed by the President-Elect, with only Blue Ribbon Committee appointments ratified by the Board.  Committee members serve one-year terms beginning in January, except for the BRC Committee, which begins service in August.
